What A Digital Asset Is

Digital World supports digital representations of currencies, commodities, organizational interests, rights, and other assets, issued by members or by independent providers on the network. See Digital Assets for how they work.

What A Digital Asset Is Not

  • Not insured or guaranteed by any government or deposit-insurance program.
  • Not a guarantee of value, availability, or uniqueness.
  • Not automatically a legally recognized security, currency, or financial instrument in any given jurisdiction.
  • Not risk-free - digital assets can carry risk of loss, including through technical error, network disruption, or dispute.

Issuance And Custody Vary By Asset

Availability, custody, backing, redemption rights, and legal treatment vary by asset, issuer, and jurisdiction. Some assets are self-custodied by the member who holds them (see Digital Wallet); others may be issued or backed by an independent provider under that provider's own terms. Always check the specific issuer's terms for a given asset before relying on it.

Organizational Asset Structures

Structures such as a Digital Trust, Digital Business, or Digital Association let members organize how associated digital assets are held or distributed, but they are not automatically legally recognized entities in every jurisdiction. Whether a structure also functions as a legally recognized trust, business, or association depends on the laws that apply to you.
