Councils are one part of how Digital World's governance works in practice.

Purpose

Councils are governance and advisory bodies that review standards, policies, and recommendations for a specific area of the Digital World ecosystem.

How Members Participate

Members join a council through their Digital Identity and take part in its ongoing discussions and reviews.

How Recommendations Are Developed

Council members discuss topics within their focus area and put forward recommendations, which feed into Digital World's broader governance process.

Relationship To Governance

Councils support Digital Governance by advising on their focus area, alongside legislation and community decision-making.

No Legal Authority

Councils support governance within Digital World, but they do not automatically exercise legal government authority.

Digital World Councils

Digital World Councils are governance and advisory bodies made up of members who volunteer to review standards, policies, and recommendations for a specific area of the ecosystem, such as health, technology, or safety.

They exist to give the Digital World community a structured way to discuss and help shape how the network develops, rather than leaving those decisions to a single central authority.

Any member with a Digital Identity can join an existing council. Today, a number of councils are active and open for members to join; council membership and activity levels vary by focus area.
