Become a Citizen of the Digital World

A structural form for technologies and organizations where control is spread among many participating entities. The opposite, centralization, implies control in the hands of a few entities that are "central" to decision making.

Digital World services are designed to let individuals manage their own identity, data, and finances, with fewer dependencies on centralized intermediaries. Becoming a Citizen here refers to a Digital World membership tier - it does not grant legal citizenship, nationality, or government status in any country.

Own Your Own Digital Reputation

In the Digital World, members can build a Digital Reputation score connected to their Digital Identity.

The score reflects the trustworthiness of any Digital Individual, Digital Organizations such as Associations, Trusts and Companies and their Digital Assets, on a scale of 0–1000. It's intended to help you make more informed decisions about the people and entities you connect with online, as one input among others.

Digital World Citizenship

Citizen is the highest of the three Digital World membership tiers, alongside Member and Resident. It reflects a broader level of participation across Digital World services.

As with all Digital World membership tiers, becoming a Citizen is governed by Digital World's own terms and does not represent legal citizenship, nationality, or government status in any country.

Does becoming a "Citizen" of the Digital World grant legal citizenship in a country?

No. Member, Resident, and Citizen are Digital World membership tiers. They do not grant legal citizenship, nationality, residency, or government status in any country.

What's the difference between Member, Resident, and Citizen tiers?

Each tier unlocks a different set of Digital World services, shown in the comparison table above. Member is the entry tier, Resident adds further services, and Citizen includes the broadest set of services currently offered.

Can I change my membership tier later?

Membership tiers are intended to reflect your level of participation in the Digital World and can change as your needs change. Check your account settings for current options.

Is a Digital Reputation score required to hold a Citizen-tier membership?

A Digital Reputation score can be part of participating in Digital World services, but it is a separate feature from your membership tier. Review the comparison table for which services apply to which tier.

Is "Digital Citizenship" in the 10-step framework the same as the Citizen membership tier?

No. The 10 steps describe general digital-literacy concepts such as digital access, digital commerce, and digital etiquette. Citizen, by contrast, is a specific Digital World membership tier described in the comparison table above.
